Report Rebound 2k9

The three day Inter -Technical College Basketball tournament Rebound 2k9 was a looking glass for human hope, excellence and positive change, for the sport of basketball in ISMU as well as in Jharkhand. It was in short, a microcosm of human existence, with all its exuberance, tragedy and triumph. The tournament was organized in the fond memory of our beloved ISMITES Amit Prakash and Kumar Satyam.

The embellished inaugural ceremony was matched by the benignant presence of DIG,CISF Mr R.R.Bhardwaj who lit up the lamps and formally declared the tournament OPEN. Mr K.Samanta, the Secretary of Dhanbad Basketball Association was invited to officiate in the tournament.

The tournament kicked off with an exhibition match between DHANBAD PUBLIC SCHOOL & DE-NOBILI SCHOOL. It was quite a sight to watch the kids pump out the last ounce of blood in their body to win the game for their schools.

Various teams from different parts of the country took part in the tournament namely MERI KOLKATA,NSHM DURGAPUR, AOT BANDEL,BIT PATNA, ISM BLACK LABEL & ISM WHITE MISCHIEF. The level of intent , fire and liveliness made each team an equal contender for the scintillating golden shield. In a very closely contested neck to neck semi final ISM WHITE MISCHIEF went down to MERI KOLKATA. It was basically the lack of coordination and the cocksure mindset which resulted in the team’s downfall. The other semi final was comprehensively won by ISM BLACK LABEL.

The final was played between ISM BLACK & MERI under the star studded night sky awash with white lights. The ferocious body language of the MERI players was no match to nerve breaking slam dunks and breath taking dodges of the BLACK LABELS who stole the heart of ISMITES as well as the local crowd. ISM WHITE MISCHIEF was the second runner up. During the quarter breaks the dhols and tasha’s not only refreshed the teams but also made enchanted spectators to dance on their feet.

The most spectacular achievement was the selection of four ISMITES namely PROHIL SINHA(2ND YEAR), ANSHUL,VARUN KHATTAR & ABHISHEK AGGARWAL (1ST YEAR) made it to the state basketball team. With the lights of such endowed & talented players ISM BLACK LABEL clinched the first ever REBOUND title. Laksh Lumba with 34 counts was the Most Valuable Player(MVP) of the tournament. PROHIL SINHA for his fantabulous and splendid display of skills was the player of the tournament. The prize distribution and closing ceremony was witnessed by stunning fire works that lit up the night sky. This marked the end of first successful Rebound.
